Tangled, Disney's 50th animated movie to date, was expected to gross $50 million dollars at the box-office this weekend. Crazy, right? How could a Disney princess movie gross anything over $20 million? Well that's where you're wrong - twice. First, Tangled isn't necessarily a princess movie. Now yes, the main character is a princess, but the main male character, Flynn Ryder, is also a very key role in the movie. Second, the film far exceeded expectations by not only living up to the $50 million that it was expected to earn, but adding almost $20 million onto that for a domestic haul of 69 million dollars in just five days.
However, even though Tangled did do great this week, it was still beaten out by Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1. Now, it is still a great accomplishment, especially by being only $9 million behind the top-grossing film series of all time. So anyways, here's how the rest of this week has gone down since Wednesday: (in millions)
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1: $78.8
2. Tangled: $69
3. Megamind: $17.6
4. Burlesque: $17.2
5. Unstoppable: $16.2
6. Love and Other Drugs: $14
7. Faster: $12.2
8. Due Date: $10.4
9. The Next Three Days: $6.6
10. Morning Glory: $5.5
