An American fighter F-15, who participated in air strikes on Libya, crashed and its two crew members ejected and were rescued apparatus, said Tuesday the U.S. military.

"The two members of the crew ejected from his F-15E when the plane suffered a problem of malfunction on 21 March at 22h30 on the northeast by Libya, " said Karin Burzynski, spokeswoman for the U.S. Africa Command, which coordinates U.S. headquarters operations from Stuttgart (southern Germany).

The pilot and copilot were "safe and sound" and only minor injuries, he said.

The plane crashed on Monday night and was not due to hostile military action, said the U.S. Africa Command.
This is the first officially recognized loss of a coalition aircraft in Libya.
