The Barbadian singer Rihanna, who shot to fame in 2005 with the song "Pon de Replay" will make her film debut in 2012 in the film "Battleship", whose plot is based on the popular board game naval battles.
According to variety.com website, the film will be directed by Peter Berg, who is "anxious" to shoot this story located in sky, sea and land, and which will be a battle against "superior force" with " survival of the planet at stake.
The agreement was announced today by Universal, which does not have a definite date for its release.
However, "Variety" that could be forward to the May 25, 2012 when it appears on card.
In "Battleship", Rihanna shared credits with Taylor Kitsch (an old acquaintance of the director, as they work together in the television series "Friday Night Lights", produced by NBC)
The cast will include Alexander Skarsgard, who will play the brother of a naval officer to be performed by Kitsch, a script written by Jon and Erich Hoeber under the supervision of Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
Production will be charged with Berg's own Sarah Aubrey of Film 44, and Bennet Schneir Brian Goldner, Hasbro's (creator of the famous game), and Scott Stuber of Stuber Pictures.
Robyn Rihanna Fenty, the singer's real name, rose to fame in 2005 when he was only 17 years, with the single "Pon de Replay" and has since had seven songs at number one on the charts.
